Restorative Dentistry Provides Lifelike Repair

Restorative dentistry enables our team to repair damaged teeth and even treat issues like tooth decay and dental infection. These treatments provide lifelike repair and protect smiles from major complications. In today’s blog, Jeffrey Leibowitz, DDS, talks about how we provide lifelike repair with restorative dentistry.

The Need for Restorative Dentistry

When do you need to see our team for restorative dentistry? Treatment is crucial when teeth are compromised, as this could help prevent the risk of infection or even tooth loss. For example, if your teeth hurt, this be due to a serious case of decay or even an infection, and restoration could stop pain and prevent the loss of the tooth. We can also address injuries to the teeth that leaves them vulnerable to decay.

Fillings and Crowns

If you have a cavity, we could offer help in one sitting with a dental filling. Instead of metal, we have composite resin, which is durable and able to be shaded to blend with your tooth. Placement stops the pain in your tooth and prevents infection. The same material can be used in a bonding procedure to repair minor damage and mask common cosmetic complaints, all in one sitting.

If you have a more severe injury or case of tooth decay, we could offer help with a crown. This is a full restoration that caps the tooth and could be used to address severe tooth decay, take on injuries to the tooth, and even help improve bite balance and chewing function. We could even discuss partial crowns, known as inlays and onlays, for situations too severe for a filling but not advanced enough to require a full crown. The restoration will be crafted from materials like porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or zirconia, all of which can be shaded to blend with your smile and offer a lifelike appearance!

Root Canal Therapy

If a tooth is infected, then a filling or a crown alone may not be enough to protect the smile from tooth loss and spreading infection. But with an endodontic treatment known as a root canal, we can offer relief. With this procedure, our team will numb your tooth and then gently open it so we can remove the infected tissues from within. We then clean the inside of the tooth and root canals, and add a new filling to the interior. Finally, we will cap the tooth with a crown.
