Time For Your Spring Checkup And Cleaning

When was the last time you sat down in our office for a routine checkup and cleaning? While this may seem like a minor thing, regular care is crucial for keeping your smile bright and full. In today’s blog, Jeffrey Leibowitz, DDS talks about how we protect smiles of all ages with checkups and cleanings!

A Dental Checkup

A dental checkup benefits kids, teens, adults, and seniors. Basically, everyone needs to see their dentist every six months to protect their smile from issues like tooth decay and gum disease, and to allow us to identify and address issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). That way you not only avoid discomfort, but the risk of tooth loss too.

When you arrive, we will talk to you about your oral hygiene habits and how you care for your smile, as well as possible habits that could put your teeth and gums at risk. We then take a close look at your teeth and gums on the surface with an intraoral camera, and beneath the outer structure and gums with a digital-rays. These high-definition images are available instantly chairside, and allow us to make detailed diagnosis with precision and accuracy. We can then create a treatment plan to address what we find and keep your smile healthy and intact!

Cleaning Your Teeth

To further protect your smile, we will also conduct a routine dental cleaning in the same visit. With this procedure, our team will employ an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual pick to gently and thoroughly remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth. Doing so allows us to limit the risk of bad breath, stained teeth, cavities, and even gingivitis and gum disease. Once we remove the buildup, we will polish the teeth to make it more difficult for plaque and tartar to accumulate before you see us again in six months. This also leaves your smile looking bright!

Protect Your Smile from Home

We always take time in our visits to help discuss proper homecare routines, which are essential for protecting your teeth and gums before we see you again. All ages need to brush twice a day for two minutes and floss every evening. We suggest a toothbrush with soft bristles, and you can select an electric or manual one, your preference. Flossing is also crucial, and you can use tape, string, a pick, or even a water flosser. If you have any questions, please reach out today!
