Question: What causes a cavity?
Answer: A cavity forms when bacteria can bypass the protective outer layer of tooth enamel, reaching the sensitive dentin beneath. The enamel can be become weakened by poor oral hygiene, allowing enamel to erode and cavities to form. Injury to the tooth, such as a fracture or chip, can also lead to the onset of cavities.
Question: How do I know if I have one?
Answer: You will typically experience discomfort, such as tooth sensitivity (especially to hot or cold foods/drinks) and toothaches that don’t subside after 48 hours.
