What Can I Expect From A Crown Placement?

Last week, we took a look at how a filling can repair a decayed tooth. However, in some cases a filling just isn’t substantial enough to repair a tooth. We can often place a custom-made dental crown to repair damaged teeth or address decay or infection. What can you expect from a crown placement?

Preparing the Tooth

To make room, we will first need to remove a small amount of structure. After doing this, we can take detailed impressions of the tooth. After we take impressions, we may place a temporary restoration before you leave the office. After you leave, the process of designing and creating the completed restoration begins. Each one a patient receives will be custom-made for greater precision and a better fit.

Placing the Completed Crown

After a dental lab completes it, you will return to the office. We will remove the temporary, check the fit of the new restoration, and if necessary, make any adjustments to ensure a comfortable and accurate fit. We will then use a powerful bonding agent to attach the completed dental crown. We can use the restoration to repair decayed or infected teeth, correct cracked or chipped teeth, and anchor a dental bridge in place. We can also complete a single tooth dental implant. No matter what the reason, rest assured that placement will help your tooth achieve optimal function and appearance.

Materials Used to Create a Restoration

We use a variety of materials to create the restoration. For teeth near the back of the mouth, which must endure greater bite forces, we may suggest porcelain-fused-to-metal, metal, or zirconia. Teeth near the front, we may recommend all-ceramic, the most lifelike option available. If you have any questions or concerns about creating and placing a custom-made dental crown, then please contact our office today.
