As we’ve discussed before, tooth loss can lead to serious issues with your oral health, impacting your appearance as well as your ability to eat and speak. For a more lifelike and longer lasting solution than removable dentures or traditional bridges, we may prescribe a dental implant. We can create natural looking restorations to complete your new tooth. How do we create implant restorations? How do dental implants differ from other tooth replacement options?

- True or False: Our implant restorations are custom-made.
- True or False: The restorations can withstand powerful bite forces.
Answer Key
- True. We will work with an oral surgeon, who will insert the implant portion into your jawbone. The placement area will then need to heal over a period of three to four months. During this time, osseointegration occurs, which means the dental implant and the jawbone actually bond together like a natural tooth root.
- True. When we lose teeth, the body takes notice and responds by suspending the flow of calcium and phosphorus to the jawbone. Without these nutrients, the bone actually deteriorates, leading to an aged appearance. Since dental implants bond with the jawbone like actual tooth roots, the flow of nutrients resumes, protecting your facial structure.
- True. Once the placement area has healed we will create an implant restoration. A custom-made dental crown will be fabricated using lifelike ceramic. The ceramic we use can be shaded to blend with the surrounding teeth. In addition, the material is also stain-resistant and mimics the translucent appearance of tooth enamel.
- True. Ceramic is a durable material, one that can withstand the pressures teeth regularly receive.
