Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Bridges

Question: Why do we lose our teeth?

Answer: A variety of factors can lead to tooth loss, including poor oral hygiene (which can cause decay and/or infection), injury, and in most cases, advanced gum disease (periodontitis). As part of the replacement process, we will need to assess the cause of your tooth loss.

Question: What can we do to preserve our smile?

Answer: You can take steps to limit the risk of periodontal disease or tooth decay. First, make sure you brush your teeth twice a day and always floss before going to bed. In addition, try to cut back on sugary foods and drinks. Finally, always make time to see the dentist once every six months for a thorough checkup and cleaning. The cleaning allows the doctor to completely remove plaque buildup, which reduces the risk of periodontal problems.

Question: How do bridges work?

Answer: The prosthetic consists of one to three replacement teeth with crowns attached to each end. The crowns are placed onto the natural teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. Once in place, the crowns anchor the teeth in place, allowing you to eat and speak with ease.

Question: Are they the right choice for my smile?

Answer: If you are missing one to three teeth in a row then bridges may be a good choice for you. They can last between 10 and 15 ears with proper care and maintenance.
