How Do You Fix Damaged Teeth?

When our teeth become damaged the outer enamel is compromised, meaning bacteria can bypass it to reach the more sensitive inner layers of dentin. Patients then have a higher risk of developing tooth decay and dental infections. We have procedures designed to address a number of different scenarios, such as:

  • Chipped Teeth: When a tooth is chipped we can often correct the problem in one visit with dental bonding. Employing the same lifelike material as white fillings, bonding can repair chipped teeth and mask discoloration. We can also mask minor chips with porcelain veneers. Designed to look completely lifelike, veneers are often used to completely change the appearance of the teeth.
  • Broken Teeth: If you break a tooth then you may need more substantial restoration. If dental bonding isn’t enough to restore your tooth the dentist may recommend a dental crown. The crown fits over the entire visible portion of the tooth. We can use one to address serious damage to a tooth.
  • Fractured Teeth: Dental fractures are very serious because you may not be aware that you cracked your tooth. The damage may be practically invisible to the naked eye, giving time for decay or infection to occur. To repair a cracked tooth we may first perform an endodontic procedure (root canal) and then place a crown over the tooth.
