Have you ever heard of prosthetic dentistry? This refers to the creation of tooth replacements, which can help restore your smile to full function and health. Whether you lose one or all of your teeth, you can benefit from a prosthetic. What dental prosthetics do we offer?
Dentures
We actually offer two different forms of denture: full and partial. A full replaces all of your teeth on one or both arches. The prosthetic consists of an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of natural gum tissue and holds the new teeth together. The full denture is held in place with natural suction. The partial addresses multiple tooth loss, even if the missing teeth are spread across the arch. This one also contains an acrylic base, but is held in place with metal clasps that attach to the remaining natural teeth to anchor the new ones in place. On average, a denture can last between 5 and 10 years, requiring replacement as the mouth changes shape due to tooth loss.
Bridges
A bridge is used to address minor tooth loss. The prosthetic contains one to three replacement teeth with crowns on either end. We prepare the natural teeth on either side of the gap and place the crowns on them, which holds the new teeth in place. A bridge can last between 10 and 15 years on average.
Dental Implants
Dental implants offer a unique approach to tooth replacement. The implant is surgically inserted into the jawbone, bonding with the jawbone like a natural root. This prevents the mouth from changing shape due to loss of jawbone density (which often occurs due to tooth loss). As a result, the new tooth can last for decades or possibly a lifetime. The implant is topped with a custom-made restoration to ensure the new tooth looks natural. We can replace a single tooth or secure a fixed denture as well.
