Answer Key

  1. True. A cavity requires treatment, otherwise it will continue to spread until bacteria comes in contact with the inner pulp, leading to an infection. We can sue a dental filling to repair a cavity. A filling allows us to remove the decay and fill the exposed area with a composite resin, a metal-free material that looks natural.
  2. True. A chipped or fractured tooth exposes the sensitive inner tooth structure to bacteria. Without treatment, decay or infection may develop. We can use a dental crown to repair broken or cracked teeth, protecting the remaining structure from further damage. The crown fits over the entire visible part of the tooth. We may use porcelain, metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or zirconia to create the dental crown.
  3. True. Unless treated, an infection can cause the tooth’s inner pulp to die, effectively killing the tooth. An extraction is then necessary to prevent the spread of infection to surrounding teeth. However, we can perform a root canal to remove the infected tissue and place a dental crown to ensure the tooth continues to look lifelike and is protected from decay.
  4. True. If you lose a tooth, then give us a call. We can use restorations to secure a dental bridge or to complete a dental implant, returning your smile to full function and appearance.
