Quiz: Who Qualifies for Dentures?

dentures

Who qualifies for dentures? Do you have multiple missing teeth? If you do, then you understand how this impacts your day-to-day life, making eating and speaking difficult. Out of embarrassment, you may even avoid social interaction with friends. With dental prostheses, we can restore your lost teeth with a natural looking and custom-made prosthesis.

Dentures Quiz

  1. True or False: Tooth loss can hurt your oral health.
  2. True or False: Dentures are only for people who have lost all of their teeth.
  3. True or False: A full prosthesis will look completely lifelike.
  4. True or False: All dental prosthetics are removable.

Answer Key

  1. True. When you lose your teeth, the surrounding teeth may begin to drift towards the empty socket in your teeth. The resulting misalignment can lead to an increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Tooth loss can also strain the jaw joints, allowing TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding/jaw clenching) to develop.
  2. False. We actually offer partial dentures for people with multiple missing teeth spread out across an arch. They consist of a set of replacement teeth with metal clasps on each end. The clasps clip onto the natural teeth, anchoring the dental prosthesis into place.
  3. True. With full dentures, we take impressions of your teeth in order to create a lifelike prosthesis that fits comfortably. The prosthesis consists of an acrylic base that will look like gums and teeth designed to look completely natural.
  4. False. In some cases, patients can receive a set of fixed prostheses. This is accomplished by placing multiple dental implant posts into the jaw. They act as tooth roots, securing the prosthesis so they are not removable and won’t slip when a patient eats or speaks. We will examine your teeth and jaw before deciding which of our prostheses will best address your tooth loss, partial, full, or even implant-retained dentures.
