Dental Emergency Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Can I see Dr. Leibowitz if I’m not already a patient?

Answer: Yes. Even if you’ve never set foot in our practice, your Astoria NY dentist will be happy to see you. Just call our office number and we will fit you in right away. If your emergency occurs outside of normal office hours, call the main office number. We will make arrangements for Dr. Leibowitz to see you as soon as possible.

Question: What happens if I experience a sudden toothache?

Answer: First, use a piece of dental floss and floss each side of the aching tooth. Then rinse your mouth with warm water. If this fails to dislodge an object or address your discomfort, call your Astoria NY dentist immediately.

Question: What should I do if I break or crack a tooth?

Answer: First, gather any pieces of the tooth you can find and bring them to the office with you. Then, rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a piece of gauze if bleeding occurs. Use a cold compress to control swelling and see Dr. Leibowitz.

Question: What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Answer: First, pick the tooth up by the crown, never the root. Then, gently rinse the tooth under running water to remove foreign debris. Don’t remove any tissue adhering to the tooth. If you can, place the tooth back into the socket and bite down gently to hold it in place. If this can’t be done, put the tooth in a glass of milk and bring it with you to see Dr. Leibowitz.
