Does Your Smile Need A Bridge Or Implant?

leibowitz-implantWe offer different solutions to help you enjoy a whole smile. Tooth loss can impact adults and seniors, leading to complications. How do you know which option will best address your missing teeth? Should you consider a dental bridge or possible a dental implant to replace your lost teeth?

Causes and Complications of Tooth Loss

We can lose a tooth as a result of poor oral hygiene, which can allow tooth decay and eventually a dental infection to form. An untreated infection can soon lead to tooth loss. A tooth can also be knocked out or damaged to the point that an infection develops. Finally, the late stages of periodontal disease, such as periodontitis, can cause the connective tissue between the teeth and gum to deteriorate, leading to tooth loss.

Dental Bridges

One of the more common options for replacing a tooth, a bridge can actually provide replacement for one to three teeth, provided they are in a row. The doctor will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap. Impressions will be taken and used by a dental lab to create the bridge. The prosthetic contains crowns attached to the artificial teeth. The crown is then placed onto the prepared teeth, holding the new ones in place.

Dental Implants

We also offer a more lifelike and longer lasting alternative. Dental implants don’t rely on crowns; they are instead inserted directly into the jawbone. The implant then bonds with the jawbone, acting as a new tooth root. Finally, once the area heals we will place a dental crown onto the implant. The new tooth will look and function like a natural one. In addition, it will be able to last for a lifetime provided you take care of your smile.
