Frequently Asked Questions About ClearCorrect Braces

Question: How do aligners differ from metal braces?

Answer: Metal braces involve placing brackets onto the front of the teeth and connecting them with an arch wire. The dentist then adjusts the tension in the wire to reposition the teeth. Our system involves no brackets or wires. Instead, the patient wears a series of clear plastic aligners to gently and slowly reposition the teeth and correct misalignment.

Question: Who makes a good candidate for ClearCorrect?

Answer: We tend to look for patients over the age of 16 that have more minor cases of misalignment. However, the doctor will carefully examine your jaw to assess the severity and cause of your misalignment before deciding if this is the best option for your smile.

Question: How long will I wear the aligners?

Answer: Each day, you will wear them for about 20 to 23 hours, removing them only for meals or when brushing and flossing your teeth. About every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set. Total treatment time varies depending the extent of your misalignment, but the average falls between a year and 18 months.

Question: How does improving alignment improve oral health?

Answer: Without treatment misalignment can make thorough brushing and flossing difficult, allowing a greater chance of tooth decay and gum disease developing. The pressure uneven teeth can place on the jaw joints can also increase the risk of TMJ disorder or bruxism (chronic teeth grinding).
