Astoria, NY Community Events

  1. Local Nativism: Aloft Hotel and Long Island City Arts Open will be hosting a gallery of eight local Queens painters. The show takes place on Thursday, May 18th from 7pm until 10pm at the Aloft Hotel. Admission is free.
  2. Queens Writes Weekend: May 19th until May 21st is the 5th annual Queens Writes Weekend. Presented by the Newtown Literary Alliance, participants will visit a number of locations across Queens to write based on prompts, enjoying their community while expanding their writing abilities. Admission is free.
  3. Ladybug Girl Storytime: The Astoria Book Shop will be hosting a storytime with David Soman and Jacky Davis’ latest book, Ladybug Girl’s Day Out with Grandpa, which covers the Ladybug Girl and her grandfather’s trip to the Natural History Museum. Admission is free and the event takes place on Saturday, May 20th from 1pm until 2pm.
  4. Children’s Book Reading and Craft Day: The Queens Botanical Garden will be hosting a children’s book reading and craft day on Saturday, May 20th at 43-50 Main Street Flushing. The event is free with garden admission and lasts from 2pm until 3:30pm. Kids will hear the Planting of a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert and then create a flower pot pop up card. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students with ID, $2 for kids 4 to 12, and children 3 and under are free.
